The ATO, ABSIA and DSPs have been working together for the past two years to increase the level of security and assurance for software developers, accountants, bookkeepers and taxpayers. The successful implementation of the Operational Framework by DSPs has positively affected the entire ecosystem. This year, the industry has focused on extending and expanding the Operational Framework to a broader expanse of software developers and customer use cases. 

This session is multi-faceted and will be covering:

About the Speakers


John Dardo ATOJohn Dardo, CDO and Deputy Commissioner, Australian Taxation Office
John Dardo is the ATO's Chief Digital Officer and is responsible for setting the ATO's digital agenda, designing the end-to-end digital experience and delivery of key components of the digital agenda, for example:

  • Digital identity, authentication and authorisation services
  • ATO digital interfaces eg. ATO Online, portals and mobile app
  • SBR platforms and Application Program Interfaces, and
  • Digital Partnership Office.

John has worked as a senior executive managing a range of ATO functions including contact centres, digital transformation, compliance and business registries

Matthew Prouse ABSIA XeroMatthew Prouse, Board Director, ABSIA & Head of Industry, Xero AU
Matthew has worked in the accounting and technology space for the past 12.5 years and joined Xero in 2013 following 8 years in public practice. Based in Melbourne, Matthew works closely with the Product and Partner teams to make sure the teams deliver for small businesses and their critically important professional advisors. He regularly represents the industry and small business on behalf of key stakeholders including the Federal Government, ATO and other Commonwealth agencies industry groups and professional associations.

Simon Foster ABSIA Squirrel Street

Simon Foster, Vice President and Director, ABSIA & Founder and CEO, Squirrel Street
As a technology entrepreneur with experience across Europe, Asia and North America, Simon has garnered more than two decades experience working for early stage and high growth technology startups, mid-size enterprises and multi-nationals.

Working across a number of key roles over the years has allowed Simon to develop a significant understanding of the technology landscape, including specialist knowledge of data security, scanning and secure document storage and the workings of the online/cloud-sphere.

With a keen interest and involvement in the Sydney technology startup community, Simon has also found value in sharing his knowledge through mentoring new technology entrepreneurs via the Founders Institute and PushStart accelerator, and acting as an angel investor. In addition, through the nature of Squirrel Street's service, it has required Simon to build valuable working partnerships (and integrations) with other technology providers in the business management space such as MYOB, Xero, Intuit, Reckon, Saasu and Sage.

Terry Seiver ATOTerry Seiver, Assistant Director and DSP Operational Framework Evolution Lead, ATO Digital Partnership Office
Terry is an Assistant Director within the ATO's Digital Partnership Office and is responsible for the adaptation and evolution of the Digital Service Providers Operational Framework. 

Terry joined the ATO in 2011, and has worked in the Digital Partnership Office for the past four years. Prior to joining the ATO, Terry has held a number of technology roles in local, state and federal Government and has also lectured in IT at the University of Newcastle.

A career spanning 20 years in the IT industry - Principle Business Analyst, Business Analyst, Software Tester, Software Leader Michael Wright is currently a Product Manager - Handisoft, Sage Software Australia and has been with Sage for 13+ years. 

An integral member of the product team, Michael's role plays a pivotal part in enabling growth for the business implementing the latest technology to improve products, developing strategies to meet customer demands, monitoring the progress of new products and working with other departments to refine and enhance customer experience and satisfaction. 

Michael is passionate about taxation compliance software and is excited by new opportunities that the latest technology can bring to practitioners. 

David Martin Intuit


David Martin, Manager - Small Business and Self Employed Group Technical Compliance and Audit, Intuit
David is responsible for the compliance strategy and operations of Intuit's Small Business and Self Employed Group globally. He has more than 20 years experience in accounting audit software, and began his career writing small business sales and trust accounting software, before transitioning into the enterprise and government markets during his time with Peregrine Systems and Hewlett-Packard. David has a Bachelor of Science (Geography) and a Masters of Science (Information Technology).
