Guidance for Tax Practitioners Assisting Clients Affected by Fraud
The ATO has complied some practical guidance for tax practitioners to assist clients that have been affected by fraud, including: The ATO is currently running a pilot with clients who have been compromised to encourage them to get the strongest myGovID credential they can manage. For those who can get to IP3, the ATO encourages them to log into Online Services for Individuals and lock in their credentials meaning a fraudster cannot impersonate them using a lower-level myGovID in ATO online services. The other big benefit is that the ATO can ‘uncompromise’ their account, which is a much better experience for them. The best way for clients to protect themselves is to make sure they have strong security and guard their myGovID.
Independent Review of Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave
Flinders University is conducting an Independent Statutory Review of the Fair Work Amendment (Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave) Act 2022 and deliver a report to Government. Stakeholders are invited to contribute to the Review by sharing:
  • How the reforms have been implemented
  • How the reforms have impacted employers and employees experiencing family and domestic violence
  • Any challenges in implementing or accessing Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave
You can participate through roundtable consultations, an online questionnaire or written submissions. All contributions must be received by Friday 7 June. Learn more here.
Exploring real-time PAYG Instalment Solutions
The ATO is seeking expressions of interest from DSPs servicing small business companies who’d like to be involved in testing ATO-endorsed calculation methods in their software, which will allow taxpayers to pay instalments based on real-time economic performance. If you’re interested, raise a ticket via the DSP service desk by 29 May.
