Stronger Requirements for eInvoicing in Aotearoa New Zealand
Last week, Minister for Small Business and Manufacturing, Hon Andrew Bayly, announced the Government’s intention to repeal the Business Payments Practices Act 2023 and pursue non-regulatory measures to improve payment times to small businesses - including eInvoicing. The Government is proposing the following:
  • Require government agencies to send and receive eInvoices
  • Introduce a 5 working day payment target for government agencies to pay eInvoices
  • Consult with larger Crown Entities on extending these eInvoice requirements and additional payment time targets to them
  • Publish government agency payment times

Commissioner of Taxation’s Address to National Press Club 2024
On 21 February 2024, Commissioner of Taxation Chris Jordan AO addressed the National Press Club of Australia, reflecting on his journey over the past decade. The Commissioner highlighted the ATO’s transformation during this time and recognised the continuing challenges around fraud and cyber security threats. The speech concluded with optimism about the ATO’s future goals, including being fully digitalised by 2030. Check out the Commissioner’s full address here.
Employer Gender Pay Gaps Published
The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) has published the gender pay gaps for Australian private sector employers with 100 or more employees for the first time. Take a look at employer gender quality results, including gender pay gaps and any accompanying Employer Statements, using WGEA’s Data Explorer and searching by employer. Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Bill Receives Royal Assent
The second part of the Closing Loopholes Bill received Royal Assent on 26 February. Find a summary of the changes impacting the Fair Work Commission from the Closing Loopholes Act 2023 and Closing Loopholes No. 2 Act 2024 here. OECD Tax and Development Days 2024
Join OECD for their Tax and Development Days 2024, which will take place from 12-13 March. Learn more about some of the OECD’s initiatives to strengthen tax capacity and improve tax policy and compliance in developing countries and explore future challenges. QBCC Minimum Financial Reporting Requirements
The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has announced changes to the Minimum Financial Reporting (MFR) Regulations allowing Category 1 to 3 licensees to prepare Special Purpose Financial Statements (SPFS). These changes apply to MFR reports for the quarter ending 31 December 2023 onwards. Read more about the changes and the Joint Accounting Bodies advocacy success here.
